A Tour of Representation Theory. Martin Lorenz. American Mathematical Soc., 2018 - Categories (Mathematics). - 654 pages. 0 Reviews. Representation theory investigates the different ways in which a given algebraic object--such as a group or a Lie algebra--can act on a vector space.

Afterimage This book is an exemplary piece of counter-hegemonic history writing; in Foucauldian fashion, Tagg conceptualizes photographs as always already part of a discursive system. . . . This book gives a general introduction to the theory of representations of algebras.

An introductory chapter on algebras and Banach algebras is followed by a summary of linear functional analysis and examinations of spectral theorem Representation Theory CT, Lent 2005 1 What is Representation Theory? Groups arise in nature as “sets of symmetries (of an object), which are closed under compo-sition and under taking inverses”. For example, the symmetric group S n is the group of all permutations (symmetries) of {1,,n}; the alternating group A n is the set of all symmetries My favorite book right now on representation theory is Claudio Procesi's Lie groups: an approach through invariants and representations.

This text gathers for the first time material from the representation theory of this group in both local (archimedean and Representation theory is simple to define: it is the study of the ways in which a given group may act on vector spaces. It is almost certainly unique, however, among such clearly delineated subjects, in the breadth of its interest to mathematicians. 2018-09-24 This book examines the fundamental results of modern combinatorial representation theory. The exercises are interspersed with text to reinforce readers' understanding of the subject.

As previous questions about books on representation theory and Lie theory indicate, there are a lot of them out there aimed at different parts of the subject. (So maybe community-wiki is indicated?) It's good to be clear at the outset that the problem of finite dimensional tensor product decomposition over $\mathbb{C}$ is essentially the same

The aim "This book is an excellent introduction to the use of group theory in physics, especially in crystallography, special relativity and particle physics.

I think M.A.Naimark 'Linear Representations of the Lorentz Group' its one of the books to start with. In this book (maybe this is the only one except H Weyl ofcourse:))you can find a motivation to get into the modern representation theory. And btw Naimark's book its also a good math book. No SF physics.

In addition, each exercise is assigned a difficulty level to test readers' learning. Solutions and hints to most of the exercises are provided at the end. Lie Algebras by Brooks Roberts.

My favorite book right now on representation theory is Claudio Procesi's Lie groups: an approach through invariants and representations.
